Verdino del Nord?

Description

Very early fig. Comes into bearing age very quickly. Very cold hardy, and had survived many winters unprotected on the East coast.

Bass: This is an Italian fig. They are small figs, but very tasty. It tastes like a cross between Celeste and Italian Honey. The tree is very young, but very productive. The fig size will possibly be a little larger when the tree is more mature.

Arigato: I Am a bit late to respond to this thread but the fig comes from Veneto, Italy and the cuttings I propagated the tree come from my relatives back yard ( also in Italy). The tree was in tree form more so than bush was no more than 10-15 feet high. The fruits probably wont get any bigger as they are quite small, but like you said very productive. I cant remember if its a 2 cropper or not.

Charlie: I recently learned from an Italian friend when I asked him about his Figoin..."In our dialect it is called Figoin but in truth all fig fruit of small size take that name, the variety is Verdino del Nord. Also keep in mind that here is the Blastophaga and it always possible a plant born from seed. Verdino means small green and del Nord means from the North. It produces 2 times". So there can be many varieties in Italy referred to as Figoin. Here in the US, the only one I'm currently aware of is the one Bass sourced. I wonder if it's different than Verdino del Nord and if so, what is it's variety name in Italy?
