Vasilika Sika (Round Leaf), (Herman), (Vasile's Strain), Green Greek?Sister Madeline's Green Greek?

Variety Strains

There seem to be a few different strains floating around: BC, Round Leaf, AP and VS.

Description

A possible synonym for Green Greek and/or Sister Madeline's Green Greek.

Bluemalibu @ OurFigs: This is the fruit from a 2nd year tree, in-ground. The figs range from a 25-cent piece up to a half-dollar in size and the crop is substantial. The flavor is of a very concentrated, pure strawberry, with a moderate nutty seed crunch. The skin is tender and sweet; with no splitting noted. There has been no souring detected in any fruit, and it can be allowed to dry on the tree... no dropping of fruit. The variety is Vasile's strain, and not that of Belleclare's. It has been a robust grower here, reaching 7'x5' by its second summer. With an incredibly great taste and wonderful growth traits, it is certainly a keeper here in our clime!

Harvey @ Figaholics: This fig was introduced by another collector in the eastern U.S. who reportedly obtained it from a Greek immigrant. It was claimed to be the true Vasilika Sika but some doubts about that remain based on reports from another fig collector in Greece. Regardless this fig is said to produce very good quality fruits. Medium sized fig with intense berry flavor, good sweetness, thick chewy texture, moderate seed crunch. 46 grams.
