Description

Medium sized fig introduced several years ago by Jon Verdick from a seedling he discovered among his collection (possibly a seedling of Black Madeira). This tree took about four years to fruit for us but now has an abundant crop of nice medium-sized figs with a fairly intense berry flavor, moderate sweetness, slight acidity, jammy texture, slight seed crunch. This variety is also interesting in that portions can produce deeply lobed leaves while another branch may have single lobe leaves (i.e., mulberry-type leaves). Worth the wait.

A seedling found at Encanto Farms Nursery beneath a coffee tree. Has grown to nearly 20' tall in its third season, and had produced fruits up to 3" in diameter. Skin is very dark purple, and stains profusely. Flesh has a sweet berry flavor.
