nunuorig @ OurFigs:

My latest addition to my collection - Ciliegia dolce. This fig is amazing!! It's not over bearing with sweetness, and has a wonderful cherry flavor just as the name suggests, with a hint of grape. The tree is also cold hardy, surving in ground in zone 7, up here in CT.

My friend found 3 of these trees on his property in CT and invited me over to take a peak. He reached out to the previous land owner who explained the back story. Apparently, the great grandfather brought it over from Southern Italy as it was a family heirloom. He had a near impossible time rooting it, and lost all his cuttings but 1. The story went on where the next year he was trimming it, and he shoved some of the cuttings in the ground. Fast forward a 100 years, and there are now 3 large trees in the ground. I tried rooting about 5 of cuttings. The roots form, turn brown, then the cutting just dies. I finally got 1 to root! This might be my new favorite.

The mother tree also had quite a few of the double figs like the Dall Osso, as seen in the last picture below (about 5-10% of the figs).

Either way, this Ciliegia dolce is my new favorite -- for now.
