Colonel Littman’s Black Cross has garnered the spot light of late as a premium fig. In addition to what many call an awesome flavor, CLBC is considered cold hardy, has a tight eye and is not prone to splitting. I received a cutting from Mike Davenport this spring and in spite of the newly sprouted cutting getting destroyed by hail, it eventually came back to life and is now a 6’ tree in ground. So the accounts of CLBC being a robust grower seem to be accurate. Unfortunately, my specimen isn’t producing this season.
The CLBC is still difficult to acquire. If you have been one of the lucky ones to have this variety producing, what has been your experience? Is it worthy of its hype?
